Zanzibar, which includes its
sister island of Pemba, is a tourist paradise
that lies
in the Indian Ocean 6 degrees south of the equator and just over 20
miles from the mainland. Beautiful beaches with gorgeous views
of the ocean offer
relaxation and
fun. Sail on the seas - or swim with the dolphins in this
holiday mecca.
Dolphin Safaris. We then board the dhows,
small flat boats, and set off to
explore the bay and find the dolphins. Later in the morning we stop at
one of our selected snorkeling location. For experienced groups we may
snorkel from
the boats, otherwise we land on a sand bank and snorkel
from there. A guide who can show points of interest accompanies
clients. We have snorkel vest for beginners and full instructions are given.
Also we have a large stock of sizes available. After snorkeling we
offer fresh green coconuts before we move to another Island or sand
bank for lunch (rice is a traditional Zanzibar meal). In the afternoon
there is an opportunity to join our experienced crew and sail on a
ngalawa
or canoe. In addition clients can swim, snorkel or just
relax.
Wear their swim suit and waterproof sandals for boarding the dhows and
to bring sunscreen, towel and spare T-shirt for snorkeling.
Prison Island/Changuu Island. Prison Island or Changuu Island is the middle Island of the three.
This is visible from the Stone Town. The prison on its island was
built in 1893.
Special boat trips are arranged either half day or full day to this
small resort and it takes 35 minutes to reach the Island. Historically
this small Island was used as point of concealment of slaves and later
became a temporary hospital and a quarantine island especially during
the outbreak of contagious diseases in the last century. The Island is
endowed with attractive natural features, a self walking safari
covers the Island in
15 minutes, while sand beach for swimming and the
colorful coral reef for snorkeling. A number of giant tortoises some
which are over 100 years old, brought here from Seychelles by Sultan
Said in the 1820s, various birds can easily be seen in the island.
The boat leaves by the big fig tree at Forodhani in Stone Town.
North Coast Trip - Nungwi.
Its a full day drive to the extreme north trip of Zanzibar Island
of which clients will enjoy swimming and sunbathing in white sand
beach. There are several stops en route e.g. Mkokotoni Fish Market
which is a large market at the Northern region of
Zanzibar Island, Fukuchani Portuguese ruins and the centre of Zanzibar tradition As
local dhow building industry at Nungwi. Various hard wood trees
particularly good for boat building grow in this area. It is
fascinating place to see the dhow at their various stages of
construction. It takes about 70km to reach there. Fish barbecue with
ice soft drinks will be arranged at the beach in Nungwi.
Chumbe Island Marine Park. Chumbe Island is about 6kms South West of Zanzibar town from the beach
at Mbweni ruins. It covers 16 hecters of undisturbed forest and
surrounded by a virgin coral reef, which can be reached in 30-40min. by boat. The Chumbe reef sanctuary is the first gazzeted marine
park of Tanzania. It is a one of most beautiful coral gardens and the
best preserved shallow reef on the East African Coast.
The sanctuary
has more than 200 a pieces of pristine stone corals, about 400 species
of fish and turtles & dolphin regularly passing by. You will stay in a
beautiful palm thatched bungalows nestled in the forest and all facing
the beach, only 7in total, constructed entirely of local material and
designed according to the state of the art eco-architecture. Each
bungalow is equipped to catch filter and solar heat its own water, has
solar lights and offer private facilities. A fixed number of people
are allowed to go there, which is not more than 14 pax for a day trip
and for accommodation is 13 when its full. You can do walking in the
small forest, snorkel, swim or just relax.
Cruising Dhow Sabran Jamil.
Sail daily at 17:30 hrs
from the beach in front of Sweet Easy. It sails for approximately 1
hour and 30 minutes and serve drinks (beer, wine, sodas, mineral
water, coffee) and Zanzibar home made snacks on board.
The experience
is quite traditional and the guests really enjoy it.
Jozani Forest. Jozani Forest lies 35kms South-East of Zanzibar Town with an area of
about 1,000 hectares, It is a nature forest where long ago you could
find Leopards and Antelopes. At present it is a habitat for the Blue
Sykes Monkeys and the Red colobus monkeys.
It takes 45 minutes to drive from Stone Town to Jozani Natural Forest
reserve to see red colobus monkey that are endemic
to Zanzibar. These Monkeys are very charming, friendly and easy to
photograph while they feed and play in the trees. Also you will have
a short walk into the forest to see different types of plants and tree
species that still exist in
this
forest.
City Cultural Tour.
Stone Town is the oldest part of Zanzibar town built on a 95 acres
peninsula and consisting of 2500 buildings all made of coral stone,
lime and clay, thus the name. The stone town, with its narrow lanes,
has 45 mosques, 2 Christians churches, 4 Hindu Halls and two Baobab
trees.
The Stone Town tour, is a half day guided trip which also includes
short
walks
that enable the clients to explore the fascinating
historical sites of the old parts of Zanzibar town, the tour will
include a visit to the Former slave market (The Anglican Cathedral),
the Historical and natural history museums of Zanzibar, the house of
wonders, the old fort, Dr. Livingstone House, the
old Central Market of Zanzibar, etc.
Spice Plantation Tour. Half day driving trip for a guided Spice tour in the countryside
of the island.
This site seeing trip reveals the wonderful nature and
involves frequent stops on small cash and food crops, and spice
farms. Flowering trees and plants, medicinal trees and varieties of
mints are also interesting to see. The tour will cover an area of 20
km crossing many villages such as Bububu, Kijichi and Kizimbani
which are north of Stone Town. Clients will be able to see,
touch, smell and even taste some of the spices and fruits available on
the Island. The trip also offers invitingly attractive
photographic scenery on the fruit gardens, mud houses thatched with
coconut palm leaves and the living style of Zanzibar is in the country
side.
