The Ruaha River Lodge was the first camp built in the
Ruaha National Park area, and must take
credit for choosing one of the most spectacular locations imaginable.
The situation is naturally dramatic, as the lodge extends along the
rocky shores of the Great Ruaha River, in an area where there is
rarely a view without a dash of wildlife to color it, especially
during the dry months between June and November. Ruaha River Lodge,
was built and is run by the Fox family, who have nearly 40 years of
experience of Ruaha.
The lodge seems to grow from every rocky outcrop and crevice in
ever-evolving winding paths, linking clusters of fairly basic stone
and thatch bandas. The lodge has been divided into three distinct
areas and guests may require safari vehicle transfers to one of the
vast central dining bandas. Food is home-grown, all imported from the
Fox family's farm in the wonderful highlands around Iringa, presenting
simple, wholesome fare.
The camp consists of 20 cottages, self-contained natural stone and
thatch bandas, each with veranda perfect for game viewing.
Bandas feature en suite bathrooms with hot and cold shower.
Activities include: Walking safari, night safari
drive, fishing, and boat safari on the river.
