Tribal Cultures Barabaig

The Barabaig who number more than 79,000, live in the mountainous areas around the Hanang District of the Manyara Region in Tanzania. The Barabaig is a warrior-cattle rearing tribe. Authentic women still wear locally tanned goatskin gowns. These cattle herding people believe that a man's wealth is dependent on the cattle.

The Barabaig generally are polygamous; any man with leadership position tend to have at least four wives. The Barabaig are animists. They practice ancestor worship through their priests and witchdoctors. They believe there is one God who created the world and who knows everything because his eye is the sun (his name is the same word that is used for sun).
